Season Preview: Volleyball

Coach Petersen is excited to bring back Trinity Volleyball as the program is approaching nearly two years without a game. Although she will have a young team she will still bring some experience in Kayla Barnett, Brittany Erikson, and Madison Pennington.

I had a couple of questions for the new head coach about this upcoming season.

After a year hiatus from volleyball, what can we expect from your team this season?

I am very excited for this coming season because it is an opportunity for the TBC volleyball program to have a fresh beginning. Not many teams have the chance to start a new era for their program, so this is a wonderful opportunity for these ladies. I have an excellent group for this season, and I expect to see a new foundation set in the volleyball program in both skill and character.

Being your first year as a head coach, what are you looking forward to the most about this season?

As a first year head coach, I expect to learn a lot during this season. I have a great group of ladies to work with, and I am most excited to help them reach their potential. There is nothing more rewarding as a coach than to see your athletes master a skill that they have been working on diligently. I look forward to watching these ladies improve in personal skills and mold together as one on the court.

What made you decide to become the next head coach at Trinity?

Having been apart of the TBC family as a student and athlete for four years, I understand just how special this college is. I chose to accept the volleyball coaching position because I couldn't turn down the chance to impact student athletes the same way I was impacted here. Sports shape athletes not only in the physical sense, but they shape their character and walk with God. It was an easy decision to accept this coaching position because I am so passionate about the roll that volleyball will play in these athletes' lives.

With a young team this fall, how would you measure a successful season?

With three returning TBC athletes and a great group of freshman players, I have complete faith that we will have a successful and rewarding season. It is my goal that we come out ahead against the schools that are at our competitive level, which will prepare us for the Regional tournament. With hard work and determination, I believe that this team will push through the growing and challenging times to cultivate a winning culture for TBC volleyball.
